The Death on the High Seas Act (DOHSA) is a special federal law that provides recovery for deaths occurring in oceans outside U.S. territorial waters. Unlike the Jones Act, DOHSA provides recovery for non-employees who are injured on the high seas (usually more than 3 miles off shore, or in Texas, 10 miles offshore).
Like the Jones Act, this is a specialized area of the law and an area of expertise for Merman & Dunk. Please call immediately to discuss your potential DOHSA claim.
